How not to be fooled by misleading advertisements If you need someone to change your locks, add new ones or just increase the security of your home or business, the first place many people go to is the telephone book. Most people try to use someone in their area for a variety of reasons. Price and speed of the service are generally the main concerns people take into consideration . What many consumers do not realize is that there are ads that are misleading or fraudulent. If you look in one of the many phonebooks that are at your disposal , you may notice that while looking for someone in your town or area, that some ads have more than a few addresses listed. In North Jersey there are no Locksmiths, we know of, that have 12 or 16 locations. We at NJMLA have checked out most of these addresses and the businesses do not exist.. It is disheartening to see, some of the addresses listed are empty lots, Doctor offices or other non-security related businesses. When called the dispatcher says that the locations are call forwarding addresses. (On an empty lot , we would like to see the telephone service location) When the telephone book is asked how they can place ads with misleading addresses , the answer given is that “ we cannot be expected to investigate and be responsible for the content of the ads”. If they are not responsible…Who is? We at NJMLA believe, you, the consumer have a right to know that your source can be counted on .We believe that the people you invite into your home or business, to provide security for your family , friends or business associates should not lie to you before you say the first word to them. These people have the keys to your kingdom and got them by deception. Things to do! 1.Check the ads you use and ask questions !(see section on How to pick a locksmith) 2.When you find a misrepresentation, call the telephone company and let them know. 3.Call the Better Business Bureau and the Division of Consumer Affair 4.Use this website to make your educated choice of a Security Professional
